La Conchita - Control Point Survey Conducted 3/5/2000
Click - Ground Level Digital Images

This is a high resolution natural color photograph  acquired in 1998 by Pacific Western Aerial Surveys.  The locations identified are where ground level digital images were taken, several are referenced to in geologic maps.  Evindence of movement abounds, driving through the ranch we noted several features in the exposed soil layers that indicated recent activity, the contrast recent small slides on the steep enbackments were made clear by the rain.  Access to the ranch was granted by the owner, David Ore.

Access his property is no longer possible via the road visible traversing the cliff face, we had to enter through the oil industry property to the east and drive through their facility.  The oil industry has gone to considerable expense to improve the integrity of the land on their property (contrete barriers, graded hill slopes, drainage pipes) and judging by the amount of mud on the road keeping that road clear is probably a dayly routine in the winter.

The circle locations above are places where we took images of our surroundings for reference and as documentation of some important geologic features in the area.  The blue dots represent control point locations where readings from the differential GPS were acquired.

Thanks to fellow Graduate Student Researcher Kevin Knight donated his home built differential GPS and digital camera for this mapping effort.  His knowledge and entertaining personality made for an nice day despite it being overcast and windy.

Thanks to David Ore, the owner of La Conchita Ranch.  Your interest and assistance is much appreciated.
